Key facts

  • You can close an 888casino account for reasons unrelated to responsible gambling by selecting Close my account in the Cashier or by asking live chat.
  • A closed account can be reopened through live chat, but 888 reserves the right to refuse to reopen it.
  • If you want to stop gambling, use Take a break or self-exclusion instead of simple closure; a UK self-exclusion with an 888 brand also applies to William Hill accounts.
  • Inactive accounts are charged 3 GBP a month after 13 months in the help centre, and 5 EUR a month after 365 days in the non-UK agreement, after notice.

How do you close an 888casino account?

You can close an 888casino account in two ways, and both are meant for closures that are not about responsible gambling. The 888 help centre gives these routes. Our 888casino review explains which company runs your account, which depends on your country.

In the Cashier: log in to the Cashier, select the option "Close my account" and click Submit. If you have forgotten your username or password, recover them first, because you must be logged in.

By chat: log in, click the user icon, choose "Help Center" from the side menu and select the "CHAT" option so a support agent can close the account for you.

Before you close, withdraw your balance. The method rules are explained on our 888casino withdrawal page, and unfinished document checks can hold up a payout.

Is closing an account the same as self-exclusion?

No. The closure help page says that if you want a Take a break or self-exclusion period, you should use the separate instructions, not the closure option. A self-exclusion is a safer gambling tool that blocks you for a chosen period. A closure ends the account on your request.

The help centre also explains how exclusions work between 888 and William Hill, which it has owned since 1 July 2022:

Situation Effect
Self-excluded with an 888 UK brand Applied to any William Hill account
Self-excluded with William Hill Applied to your 888 account
Exclusion made before 20 April 2023 Applies only to the brand where you made it, unless you extend it through live chat
Product block (casino, poker, bingo) at William Hill Not applied to 888; set it with 888 by live chat
Deposit limit Applies only to the account where it was set

The help centre recommends that anyone self-excluded or considering it also registers with GAMSTOP, a free service that lets you exclude yourself from all online gambling companies licensed in Great Britain.

Can you reopen a closed account?

You can ask to reopen it through live chat, but 888 decides. Have the details registered on the account ready: your full name, full home address and registered email address. The help centre states that 888 reserves the right to refuse reopening for any reason, at its own discretion.

If you try to log in and see "Your Account has been Temporarily Disabled", the help centre lists three possible reasons: you asked to close the account earlier, the operations team disabled it and may have emailed you asking for documents, which you can upload in the Safe Cashier, or a self-exclusion period you requested has not yet ended.

What happens to an account you stop using?

An account that is simply left unused can be charged. The help centre says that active accounts pay nothing, but an account unused for 13 consecutive months with a positive balance gets a monthly administration fee of 3 GBP, or the equivalent currency. The steps are:

  1. 888 tries to repay the full balance to your last used payment method, which must be valid, supported and not expired.
  2. It emails you before charging any fee.
  3. The fee starts at least 30 days after the first attempt to contact you.
  4. It continues until the balance is zero, and it never goes beyond the balance.
  5. Logging in again helps you avoid further fees.

The non-UK user agreement sets a different rule: an account is inactive after 365 consecutive days without a login, 888 gives 30 days' advance notice by email, and the fee is 5 EUR a month, or the equivalent, while a positive balance remains. Which rule applies to you depends on the company that serves your country.

Frequently asked questions

How do I close my 888casino account?

Log in to the Cashier, select Close my account and click Submit. Alternatively, log in, open the Help Center from the user icon and choose Chat to ask a support agent to close it. This route is for reasons not related to responsible gambling.

How do I take a break or self-exclude instead?

The closure help page points to separate Take a break and self-exclusion instructions. Use those if you want a block on gambling, because closing an account does not by itself start an exclusion period.

Can I reopen an 888casino account I closed?

You can ask by live chat, giving your full name, full home address and registered email address. 888 states it can refuse to reopen an account for any reason.

Does a self-exclusion at 888 apply to William Hill?

Yes, for UK brands. If you self-excluded with an 888 UK brand, the exclusion applies to any William Hill account, and the reverse is also true. Self-exclusions made before 20 April 2023 apply only to the brand where you made them unless you extend them. Product blocks and deposit limits are not shared.

Will 888casino charge me for an unused account?

Active accounts are not charged. The help centre says an account unused for 13 consecutive months with a positive balance is charged 3 GBP a month, starting at least 30 days after 888 tries to contact you. The non-UK agreement says 5 EUR a month after 365 days without a login.

What if my account says it is temporarily disabled?

The help centre lists three causes: you asked to close it earlier, the operations team disabled it and may have emailed you for documents, or you have a self-exclusion period that has not ended.
